Assar Rönnlund



Olympic medalist


Assar Rönnlund (born September 3, 1935) is a former Swedish Cross-country skier. Rönnlunds biggest championship was in Zakopane 1962 there he won gold medals in the 15km and 4 x 10 km relay; and a silver in the 50km. For this things he did get the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal. In 1967 he won Vasaloppet. Rönnlund also won the 50km event at the Holmenkollen ski festival twice (1962 and 1968.). For his cross country skiing successes, Rönnlund was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1968 (Shared with King Olav V, Gjermund Eggen, and Bjørn Wirkola.).

He is married to fellow Swedish cross-country skiier Toini Gustafsson, a 1967 Holmenkollen medalist. They are the second husband-wife team to earn this honor.
