About the Ski Resort A year round family vacation resort, Rainbow Resort is located in northwestern Minnesota--20 miles from Itasca State Park, where the mighty Mississippi River begins its 2,340 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico, and on the northern boundary of the 40,000 acre Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Skiiers can ski right out of their deluxe winterized lakeside housekeeping cabins to the beginning of the ski trails.
