About the Ski Resort

The history of Maple Ski Ridge dates back to when George Mulyca (the current owner) was growing up. He and his family had taken a ski trip to another state and they enjoyed skiing so much, that the kids decided to keep right on skiing on the hills of the family farm. They lugged their skis up to the top of the hill, put them on and then took a run. This process would be repeated over and over and over.
The folks decided that since the kids were showing such dedication that maybe they ought to help them out. So, out came an old tractor, a toboggan and a rope. The kids climbed onto the toboggan and the tractor pulled them up the hill. Before long, friends (and friends of friends) were waiting in lines to get pulled up to the top of the hill on a toboggan.

The Mulyca farm had quickly become a favorite ski hill for lots of locals. It didn't take long to realize that being popular has its price, and it had quickly become too much for an old tractor, so out came a bigger rope. From an old tractor and a big rope, came the first rope tow on the hill. Just about this time, New York State found out about all the commotion down at the family farm. It seemed that there was a law on the books that nobody can put a pulley and rope on a tractor to haul people up a hill for the purpose of skiing down, unless you have a permit to operate a ski area.

Now Maple Ski Ridge features an environmentally-friendly snowmaking operation that covers 95% of the mountain, making for an excellent season of skiing. The Schenectady Ski School has earned a good reputation as a great and fun way to learn to ski by using the respected American Teaching System of ski instruction.
